DSLR like Konica Minolta Dynax 7D/Maxxum 7D?

Hi Guys,

for shure, gear doesn't really matter that much for myself, i'm happy with my Nikon D90 btw.....but then in these special moments when i got my Dynax 7D
back into hands...everything is -just- there, without like Canikon to search through dozens of menues, which sometimes is a pain, 30 functions via direct access
onto the body, and ergonomically, the oldie, but goldie Dynax 7D or Maxxum 7D as it's called into the US...fits perfectly my hands, even it's sometimes a little bit heavy for the body alone, compared to my D90 or especially older D40. Well, it's just 6 MP, dated, but the hell who cares? ;-) i don't. My R1 is also way old, and still takes nice images. Also i don't have to search like crap for special features deep hidden inside the menues onto the Dynax 7D. The only thing that's missing is the top display like all other DSLRs that range at the time...but i can life with that.

Is there any APS-C sensor DSLR onto the market with the same kind of external controls? i haven't seen anything from this featureset onto a non fullframe sensor DSLR. It just feels not really that "digital" to me, but more
like a analogue SLR like into the by gone film days with a analogue Pentax SLR.

Hi Marc,

I know what you mean with the fact that the Nikons and Canons have too much features you'd never use and clutter your view on the world with their menu's...

I like working manual, and don't like the menus of the canons and nikons... Also I did find my Canon 1Ds too big, and to bulky... Then I came accros Leica...

I bought a Leica, and never looked back.

You might want to look into the Leica's they sound like something you'd like.

They have SLR's as well, but don't make any fullframe or APS-C version of it anymore... They only have the Leica S and Leica S2 which are medium format, and way out of my league price wise.

You can find a good amount of second hand Leica SLR's if you prefer SLR...

But the Leica M's are Rangefinder, or Messsucher as they are called in Germany.

Hi Jip,

thanks for your answer. Leica is absolutely out of my horizon,
from financial point. I'm happy with the gear i have, and think,
maybe someday a used D700 in great shape will do it...but
again, even more menues, and not the direct access of all,
mostly all features by hardware, that means buttons & dials.

*if* i'd be rich, my preference would be a leica m monochrome
with some decent glas...well, but that's just a wish...

greetings

I have looked into the Leica M Monochrome, and yes it looks like a great camera, maybe you want to look into a Leica M8 (they are getting cheaper and cheaper second hand, especially now the new Leica M is getting there.)

I started of with a second hand M8 and as of the moment I touched it never wanted to go back to the DSLR they sell these days with all the 1001 menu's!

Currently I am using a D700 which I bought two years ago, and a D90 which recently replaced my reliable old D80. Compared to the D700, the D90 feels like a point and shoot camera especially with the 35mm f/1.8 on it. But strange enough, for most occasions I prefer the D700 because the size and weight feels better in my (comparatively small) hands.

For both bodies, the menus are something to get used to. If I were to replace the D700 it would be the D800 because it looks and feels the same, but offers incredible resolution and image quality. I don't need that for the time being and I am more than happy with my two bodies.

Thanks Jip, but i am doing fine with my current gear, i've got a Nikon D40,
D90, KoMi Dynax 7D, Lumix LC1, Sony R1, Sigma DP1s & DP2s to name some.

Best wishes,
Marc

PS: I feel the same when i have my 7D into hands, everything just got a switch
or dial just at the right place, no fiddling with dozens of menues like Canikon. ;)
But i do like Nikon very much, the opposite goes for Canon.
